New Government Proposals to Speed Up the Planning Application Process Out for Consultation2/19/2016 New government proposals regarding planning have gone out for consultation this week that that could enable a fee to be paid in order to speed up and 'fast track' planning applications and the possibility of applications being outsourced to private organisations for processing before going for approval. The governments argument is that the new proposals would help to end the frustration caused by drawn-out applications but some critics are arguing that the system may favour large housing developers at the cost of home owner extensions and smaller domestic projects. Small housing developers will welcome such changes in order to speed up the planning process which can take some time and slow down projects. This obviously does not help with the governments focus on building more homes to help us build ourselves out of the housing crisis. The importance to the home extension market is that any changes, even if in primary favour of housing developers is not at the detriment of home extension planning applications. The proposals when out for consultation on the 18th February 2016.
