The Studio 30 practice have done a superb job (and we salute them) remodelling this terraced home in West London. The transformation includes a new loft bedroom and enlarged kitchen that both include walls that fold away to provide fantastic view off the adjoining park, swell as pulling the 'outside in'.
The property is located in Shepherds Bush and has recently won third place in the 'London's Best Extensions' Awards. The clients brief for the renovation was to bring more light into the building and to take advantage of the buildings position adjoining the park.
It is a Victorian Property and the brief was to bring in light and provide additional space whilst maintaining the buildings original features.
The budget of £170,000 was used wisely and included extensions to both floors with matching black glazed panels and traditional brick built walls. The kitchen was doubled in size by making use of an unused area of the rear garden, something very typical of such Victorian Homes in London.
The kitchen floor was finished in a brick style tile that was laid in a herringbone pattern that gives the feel of a brick courtyard, and the room is filled with light from the skylight above and the large glass doors leading to the rear garden.
Upstairs, the loft area was extended in such a way as to provide a new large double bedroom which commands tremendous views directly over the adjoining park.
In general the palate has been kept neutral in order to keep attention on the park view, but subtly features that add to the design feel are evident throughout, such as the reclaimed wooden floor boards in the bedroom, laid diagonally.
The creation of these two rooms also made it possible to remove a portion wall between the two existing ground floor rooms, providing a much larger space at the front of the house.
